Helena Carvalhão Buescu is Professor of Comparative Literature at U Lisboa. Her main areas of interest centre on the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as theoretical issues in comparative and world literature.
She currently directs a project on an anthology of World Literature in Portuguese, in 7 volumes. She has published widely in Portuguese and in international periodicals, and authored ten books. She regularly collaborates with foreign Universities, as Visiting Professor and Researcher in Europe, United States and Brazil. She founded and directed the research Centre of Comparative Studies (U Lisboa) and has served on several International Boards: ICLA, HERMES, Synapsis, INCH, Institute for World Literature. She serves on European Evaluation Committees, and is a member of Academia Europaea and of St. John’s College (University of Cambridge).
