Deborah Reed Danahay

Deborah Reed-Danahay is Professor of Anthropology and Jean Monnet Chair (2016-18) at the University at Buffalo (UB). Her research interests include citizenship, immigration, personal narrative, autoethnography, education and youth, social theory, and the history of anthropology.
Ideas and expressions of home and belonging are central to her work. She has conducted ethnographic research in France, the United States, and England. Her current research involves mobile EU citizens, with a focus on the French in London. She is the author or editor of 5 books, most recently Civic Engagements: The Citizenship Practices of Vietnamese and Indian Immigrants (w/Caroline B. Brettell, Stanford, 2012) and Citizenship, Political Engagement, and Belonging: Immigrants in Europe and the United States (co-edited w/Caroline B. Brettell, Rutgers, 2008). Reed-Danahay was founding Director of the Center for European Studies at UB and recently served as President of the Society for the Anthropology of Europe. She currently sits on the Executive Board of the Council for European Studies. She has held numerous visiting fellowships in Europe. Reed-Danahay is co-series editor (w/Helena Wulff) of Palgrave Studies in Literary Anthropology and co-series editor (w/Michael Herzfeld and Melissa Caldwell) of New Anthropologies of Europe (Indiana Univ. Press).
